IP Network Vulnerability and Compliance Assessment

It is not surprising that IP networks are plagued by configuration errors. They feature thousands of devices, roughly 1,500 lines of configuration scripts per device, multiple complex IP protocols, and a high level of human involvement. The IP environment is also highly dynamic with constant network/security personnel turnovers, device and service introductions, regulatory/policy changes, device faults, and organizational mergers and separations.

Unfortunately, configuration errors lead to most cyber attacks, most network downtime, excessive costs, and numerous cases of regulatory non-compliance.

Telcordia researchers are working to change the IP network status quo.

A multi-year R&D effort, supported by the U.S. Department of Defense and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, has led to a software innovation for the IP domain.

Innovation in Action

  • We have developed an IP network vulnerability and compliance assessment system, called Telcordia® IP Assure. Currently deployed in enterprise networks, this flexible solution uses patent-pending, vendor- and device-neutral algorithms, as well as assessment and visualization modules, to perform non-intrusive analyses of entire IP networks.

Innovation on the Horizon

  • Our research team is already working on an advanced, "closed loop" version of this groundbreaking product. With funding from the U.S. National Security Agency, a release is being designed with an “adaptation policy engine,” which will enable the system to trigger device corrections without human involvement.
